Scottsdale's resorts offer the best in luxury and top-flight Arizona golf

Scottsdale golf resorts

For top-rate desert golf, few U.S. destinations can compete with Scottsdale, Arizona. The Phoenix-Scottsdale area has been called the golf resort capital of the world, and indeed it has some unparalleled golf courses.

One definite must-play is Anthem Country Club. Designed by Greg Nash, this club boasts two superb golf courses, The Persimmon and The Ironwood. Both have large, undulating greens, stark elevation changes, multiple tees and formidable length. You better be accurate and have your wits about you to score well here.

Down the road apiece is Grayhawk Golf Club, home to the Tom Fazio-designed Raptor and Talon courses. Raptor is a wicked test for all skill levels, while Talon is more accommodating to high handicappers.

The Boulders is another premier Scottsdale golf club. Jay Morrish is behind both its North and South courses. The South is known as the club's premier layout, a tough, scenic course that demands every club in the bag. The North, while in the shadow of its big brother, is no slouch though.

For great public golf, head to the famous We-Ko-Pa Golf Club. The Scott Miller-designed Cholla Course at We-Ko-Pa plays to a whopping 7,124 yards from the tips. It's become the crown jewel of Scottsdale and among the most revered golf courses in the U.S.

Together with its neighbors, We-Ko-Pa Golf Club is proof that Scottsdale is America's golf resort mecca.
